Man picked up Don Henleys greatest hits album, with the outmost intent to check out Jeff Porcaros playing.

But when i came to the end of the album i heard a new drummer, and thought "Man! this guy really checked out John Bonham!" And i look in the booklet and find out it's Vinnie! Hahaha he keeps on surprising me!

    anyway.... Here it is

    Have a nice weekend

I found a cassette of that in a bargain bin about five years ago and upon seing VC in the credits I thought, this guy shows up everywhere! Just goes to show that even fat groovers like Henley will go to Vinnie when they need someone to go to the extreme. I think the drummer from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers plays the majority of the tunes on this although I might be confusing this with Henley's Inside Job album (correct me please, I don't have immediate access to either at the moment). But, yeah Vinnie on "The Garden of Allah" is just....well, Vinnie. What can I say?

By the way, I saw my daughter's copy of SheDAISY's first CD last night and played it remembering VC is on all but two tracks. God... just unbelievable how he can do his thing no matter what the setting. I highly recommend it (and the sisters sing their brains out as well!!!).

Ok I looked 'em up. Stan Lynch plays the majority of the tracks on Inside Job with appearances by Greg Bissontte and Scott Crago. On the Actual Miles CD Jeff plays on "Dirty Laundry" and "New York Minute," Vinnie on two tracks, Stan Lynch on a few (he acually shares the duty on "Garden of Allah" but we all know who's predominant) Crago on one and Don himself grooves away on the fat snare drum on the rest, with the exception of "Boys of Summer" which we all know was a machine.

Isn't it great discovering the drumming from an unexpected source?

That SheDaisy is great stuff! It reminds me of Vinnie with Nik Kersaw and Wang Chung.

I used to go to a great used record store locally and sift through all the .99 albums looking for Porcaro, Gadd, Robinson, Mason, etc. I found Jeff on some very obscure recordings.

Vinnie's showing up in Nashville has certainly given the drummer a little more leeway in that town. Of course Lonnie Wilson, Milton Sledge and others have been paving the way since Larry's passing and Eddie's accident but I think having some of the West Coast thing (Carlos Vega as well) happening in that town has really changed how the music is produced. It has gone from the dictatorships of the 70's and 80's and moved into the "I hired you to do your thing, I trust your musical judgement," just play attitude. The late 80's saw an insurgence of actual musicians becoming producers in Nashville. The adherance to formula was still there (as it is today as well) but it was the producers allowing the musicians to put their stamp on things. It was a slow process but eventually things began to change and musician's names were being recognized.
While the sylistic song formulas still reign in that town the playing has finally been allowed to come out of the closet.

Yeah Pocket, I used to do the same thing. There was a place called the Record Exchange here that had all kinds of stuff on vinyl, cassette, CD and VHS that you could get used that was usually played once or twice. The stuff was cheap and you could find all kinds of gems. I would go in with a discography of stuff that VC or DW would be on and would be able to find a great deal of it there. Pity, they lost their lease and had to close.

Eddie had his accident before Larrie passed and I don't believe Lonnie to be much of a 'paver', he's an 'ok' drummer- more of songwriter then a player.

Okay, I've got a question someone here may be able answer. Who played drums on Don Henley's Reggae featured in the movie Leap Of Faith - called Sit Down, You're Rockin' The Boat.

It's some of the tastiest reggae drumming I've ever heard and always thought it could be Vinnie.

I saw Larrie Londin play with Adrian Belew once in a tiny club. I had never seen or heard Larrie, and wasn't expecting much, but OH MY GOD...he totally blew me away. I think it was one of the greatest performances I have ever witnessed. The next day I went out to get Belew's records, but Larrie wasn't on them and the tunes just didn't sound the same. I wish Larrie was still around. I'd love to hear him live again.
